Why Convert from Old Paper Drawings to New AutoCAD Drawings?

Some AEC companies have old paper drawings ("blueprints") on hand that they would like archived.

Many firms hire a printing company to scan these original drawings into a raster format for easy viewing.

Other companies need to go one step further and have these raster files converted into a professional CAD format for future use.

To convert raster to vector architectural and engineering drawings, an image file must first be created through a process called scanning.  You are probably familiar with scanning 8-1/2" x 11" letter size sheets using a desktop scanner, however many AEC blueprints are 24"x36" sizes and bigger and require the use of a large format scanner.

The original paper blueprints (sometimes called as-built drawings) are fed into the large format scanner and raster file formats such as JPEG and TIFF are then created.
