Missing Images After DWF to DWG Conversion

by ONE
(Michigan)

Q. Hello, I am a self taught CAD beginner.

I am trying to modify someone's electronic drawing that uses lots of pictures of equipment.

After converting a DWF to DWG, the converter breaks out all of the pictures and puts them in the same folder as the converted drawing.

When I modify the DWG and transfer just the DWG to another computer, the images are gone and a text line with the path of the first computer is in the images place.

Have tried to make the whole DWG a block...tried to BIND, I must be doing something wrong.......please can you tell me what?

Thanks.....

A. Hello One,

It sounds like the conversion program you used is referencing the images files in your DWG file.

Try typing IMAGE in the DWG file, and see if there are images listed. If there are, you probably need to bring the images over to the new computer as well. After doing so, reopen the DWG on the new computer and see if the images are found.

You may also need to update the path of the images on the new computer.

Let us know if that works for you.

Still Missing Images in AutoCAD
by: ONE

Hello, Thanks for the reply. Yes that is the only way I can see the images on the 2nd computer.

Is there any way to lock the images to the dwg so that I can E-mail or transfer just the dwg without having to move all the images with the dwg?

Thanks for all your help

Update the AutoCAD Image Path
by: Anonymous

Check your conversion program to see if you can modify the settings so that it does NOT create a new directory (path) for the images, and instead places them in the same directory as the DWG files.

You can also try placing the images in the same directory as the DWG files manually, on the host computer.

Then transfer everything as is to the 2nd computer.

When you open the DWG, it should find the images straight away.
