We have yet to take on naval or marine projects, however, I have heard some firms do use AutoCAD for marine drafting.
From what I've heard, some ship builders also use software such as NAPA, TRIBON, MEGACAD, InteliShip, FORAN, Unigraphics NX, etc.
When someone asks us what type of software does a certain discipline use, I always recommend to look up 3 firms on the internet and contact their drafting departments. If you ask nicely, most will be happy to give you the information you're after.
Sometimes it just comes down to a firm's preference of using one type of drafting or design software over another.
Yes AutoCAD is used in marine drafting by: Anonymous
I have been using AutoCAD for marine drafting for about 10 years now.
Also use Rhinoceros for 3d models and convert from there to 2d for finishing touches in AutoCAD. See http://www.3dmarinedrafting.com for examples.
All the best. Tony

AutoCAD has been used for years in marine drafting, in fact conventional drafting is over and done with. Shipyards often use Shipconstructor, a 3D program based on Autocad.
