CAD Work from Home

If you are looking for CAD work from home, here are some suggestions that you may want to consider before venturing out on your own.

Get experience first

I could spend a whole day flipping through all the resumes we receive from CAD drafters with little experience.

Experience is critical before offering outsource CAD drafting services.

So put your time in with a local firm and gain at least 2 to 3 years experience in order to be taken seriously for work from home CAD jobs.

Don’t quit your day job just yet

When you decide to start your own CAD company, it may be a good idea to ease into it.

Test the waters by doing a few side drafting jobs first and slowly build your clientele. You will know when it is the right time to consider commencing CAD work at home on a full time basis.

Name your CAD business

Take your time and think of a good business name that sounds professional.

“Joe’s AutoCAD Drafting Service” probably won’t do, as you may come across to your potential client as a fly-by-nighter looking for freelance jobs.

You will also need to register your business name in your country with the appropriate government office. Be sure to do a name search first to see if anyone else has already registered the name you have in mind.

You may also want to hire a graphic artist to come up with a logo for your company.

Create a CAD outsourcing proposal

Your potential clients are going to want to see how you will provide your services. Be specific and brief.

Include your company name and logo at the top of the proposal. List your credentials, the services you will offer, how you will perform the work, where you work, project turn around times, and so on.

Indicate how you will provide your services better or different than others are already doing. You want to stand out in the mind of your potential client.

Save discussing your rates for a personal meeting or a call back from an interested firm.

Start locally

Get those yellow pages out and look up every company that you would like to offer CAD drafting services to.

Architects, engineers, fabricators, manufacturers, surveyors, and so on.

Call each firm and ask the receptionist, “Can you please tell me the manager’s name?” Then follow up with, “Can I also have your fax number?” If the receptionist asks you why, indicate that you would like to send a proposal to the manager.

Fax your proposal to all firms

Most computers come with a fax modem that can be used with fax software to send out your offer to provide CAD work from home services.

Set it up to fax over night and by morning all your faxes will be sent out.
