AutoCAD XREF problem

I have a base plan drawing (1) that is XREF'd to another drawing (2).

I need to XREF drawing (2) to another drawing (3) but I don't want drawing (1) showing up or having to freeze all it's layers.

Hope that makes sense. Is there a way to do this, it's driving me nuts!

If you "Overlay" the XREF, instead of "Attaching" it, the XREF will only be visible in your current drawing and won't show up in other drawings.
