AutoCAD Scales Question

Boss says text size should plot at 3/32" on my A1 sheet but the scale of the drawing needs to be 3/16"=1'-0".

It's been a while since I've run the CAD station here and need a refresher if anyone has one lol Thx.

Hello Ted,

Thanks for your question regarding figuring out your AutoCAD scales.

We did a newsletter tip a while back about
figuring out imperial scales here.

Basically, 12 is the number to start with when working with imperial units.

If you want your drawing plotted at 3/16" and need to figure out what your
text height in your drawing file should be, here's what I'd do:


For 3/16" = 1'-0"

1. 12 divided by (3/16 or 0.1875) = 64


2. 64 is now your scale factor.
   
   Set your dimscale (dimension scale) to 64.  If you are plotting in model space (tsk tsk) then set your ltscale (line type scale) to 64 as well.  If you need a paper space plot, just leave it as 1.


3. For your text ht to plot at 3/32”, so 3/32” (0.09375) X 64 = 6”, so set your text ht to 6" for your general text.


4. For text that is automatic, like with dimensioning, set the dim scale to 64, then set your text height to 3/32" in the Dimension Style Manager.
   
   Your dim txt will automatically come out to the proper height for that scale.
   
   Also be sure to set the height to 0 in the style of the dimension text (enter STYLE at the command prompt).
