AutoCAD and LT Layer Manager Compatibility

by Michael
(Cleveland, Ohio)

I use AutoCAD LT 2011 and am working on files from an office that has full AutoCAD. There are several XREF's to my main drawing. I set up my sheets in my AutoCAD LT and froze/thawed layers as needed for each of my sheets.

These layers were from both my main drawing and the XREF's. When I moved the drawings to the office and opened it in the full AutoCAD, I lost all of my freeze/thaw settings.

I did not have layer states saved for each sheet so I went back to my original drawing in LT and saved layer states for each sheet and reopened the drawing in full AutoCAD and I tried to reset the layer states and it did not work.

Is there a compatibility issue that does not allow LT layer states or layer setups to be read or transferred to straight AutoCAD?

Apply the Updates
by: Jacob

As far as I know there shouldn't be compatibly issues between full AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT 2011 with regards to layer states being transferable across these 2 versions.

However, I would make sure that both machines have the latest Service Packs installed in case there are any problems.

Autodesk does have an AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT Layer Manager Hotfix that can be applied, but this seems to be for system freezing problems.

You can find the latest AutoCAD 2011 updates here but be sure to view the readme files because some may not apply.

Another thing you may want to look at is the XREF paths. Be sure you are using the same paths on both machines or you have the XREF's in the same directory as the main drawing(s) with the path set to NO PATH.
